Found in 1945 Philo Records by the brothers Eddie, Leo, and Ira Mesner, in Los Angeles, California. The name, was short for their 'Philharmonic Music Shop'. In February of 1946, being forced to change the label name because legal problems with radio manufacturer Philco. The Mesners were going to change the name to Medlee Records, which was a play on words. Pronounced "Medley," it is made up of M, the first letter of their last names, followed by ED and LEE, their first names. Announced it in the trade papers, but then changed it to Aladdin (their Philo logo had an Aladdin style lamp with the smoke spelling out Philo).
Known for its wealth of recordings of rhythm & blues, early rock & roll music, and jazz. Recordings made in
Los Angeles, California, New Orleans, Louisiana.
The label was sold to Lew Chudd's
Imperial Records in 1960 and is today owned by EMI.

Some of the albums were exact reissues of the Aladdin LPs and some were modified. All of the Aladdin releases were designated with an "-A" after the Imperial number. Some of this material appeared in stereo for the first time on these Imperial releases. So we know that since the material was record before stereo it would have to be electronically reproduced.
